Join recipe editor Melissa Haskin for a special 2-hour workshop.
Recipe editing is about more than catching typos. Sure, readers might giggle if you accidentally tell them to transfer a lake to a cooling rack when you obviously meant a latke. But the mistakes that truly damage your credibility are the ones that ruin the experience for a home cook: Cook times that aren’t accurate, ingredient amounts that are clearly wrong (¼ cup salt instead of ¼ teaspoon will certainly make for a salty recipe and reader), and especially recipes that look nothing like the provided photo.
In this 2-hour hands-on workshop, cookbook editor Melissa Haskin will teach you how to self-edit your recipes like a professional. Drawing from 15+ years of experience editing thousands of recipes for publishers, authors, and brands including DK, Harvard Common Press, and Cooking Light, Melissa will talk about some of the most common mistakes that occur in recipes and how to catch them before the person at home is stuck wondering, “When was I supposed to add the coconut milk?”
During the workshop, you’ll put your new skills into practice hunting for errors like recipes that claim to be “quick and easy” but actually take 45+ minutes. Bring 5 or so of your own unedited recipes (the messier, the better!) to scrutinize during the workshop.
