🌞🏖️🍉🌞🏖️🍉🌞🏖️🍉🌞🏖️🍉🌞🏖️🍉🌞🏖️🍉

I'm so excited you will be joining me for the Small Group Summer Recipe Editing 101 session.

Before you proceed, please check your schedule to ensure you will be available at the course times:

Tuesdays 5–6:30 p.m. ET, 4–5:30 p.m. CT, 3–4:30 p.m. MT, 2–3:30 p.m. PT

July 21, July 28, August 4, August 11, August 18, and August 25, 2026

Recipe Editing 101 is an instructor-led live online course scheduled for the times noted above. These courses occur online via Zoom so you will need a working computer, tablet, or phone. All classes start promptly at the designated time (the room will open 15 minutes prior to the start of the class so you can log in and check your device/equipment to make sure everything is working before the start of each session).

These courses are not recorded so you will need to attend them at the posted time.

Now, on to the fun stuff! Over 6 weeks, we will be learning how to edit recipes, from spotting ingredients that don't exist (yes, that happens!) to fixing cook times that are off. I'm excited to share what I know.

Below is the fine-print:

Prerequisites: A general understanding of editing and proofreading concepts is necessary for this course OR, for recipe makers and cookbook authors, a general understanding of recipe writing and development is necessary. If you are an editor, you do not need an editing certificate or certification to enroll in this class, but a working understanding of style guides, editing norms, and terminology would be helpful as we will not be going over general editing/copyediting/proofreading principles. If you are a recipe creator looking to self-edit your recipes, an understanding of editing principles is not necessary.

Knowledge of Track Changes in Word or an ability to quickly pick it up without instructor assistance is REQUIRED.

Technology Requirements: This course will meet via Zoom and will contain visual elements. While you can call in to Zoom, to get the most out of the class, it is best to use video. Participants are not required or expected to appear on camera. Participants who require accommodations can use the contact form below to send an accommodation request at least 14 days prior to the start of the class.

Refund Policy: Please carefully check your schedule before registering for this course. Please be extra sure you can attend each session before registering. All sales are final. If you are attending courses and feel you are not satisfied, please reach out to the instructor promptly to discuss your concerns.

Don't Be A Jerk Policy: Any students not treating other students professionally and with respect will be first warned and then removed from the course. This is a professional learning environment and everyone deserves an opportunity to learn without fear of criticism from others.

Makeup Classes: Makeup sessions are available on request for $75 per lesson and are subject to editor's availability.

This Class Is For You: If you are a working or trained copyeditor, proofreader, or developmental editor looking to break into recipe editing OR if you are a recipe writer/cookbook author looking to learn how to edit your own recipes.

This Class Is NOT For You: This class is not meant for individuals looking to learn how to write recipes, take photos of recipes, write cookbooks, or otherwise write, photograph or style cookbooks and recipes. We will not go over photography, recipe development, or food styling.

Lastly: Please note, the instructor does not share her client list/contacts, including publisher/editor contact information with students. Students must find their own work in the industry (a great way is to send your resume to publishers and ask if you can join their freelance lists or to reach out directly to companies and clients you want to work with). Note that my work is freelance and while I find an abundance of work and am booked, it may take you some time to build up a client roster. Full-time staff work is limited, but a few spots open up every year (at places like Ninja, Traeger, Marley Spoon, and even publishers). There are very few places to learn recipe editing, so if you'd like a full-time position, a recipe editing class may help you ace your interview and show off your skills (but that's just my opinion).

Coupons: Coupons may be combined with early registration. However, coupon codes cannot be stacked (for example, you may not use a $25 off coupon from the Freelance Editors Club and also a $25 off code from the Northwest Editors Guild). Only one coupon code can be used. Coupon codes cannot be added, applied, credited, or honored after a registration has been completed. You will be able to add a coupon/discount code on the next page after entering your personal information (name, email, phone number). Click "+ Add a coupon code," type in your code and hit "apply." Once you hit "apply," the screen should immediately update and a line should be added before subtotal that says "coupon." A new total will appear. Please review your order and confirm the total price is correct before entering your payment information and submitting the order. If you can't get a code to work, do not submit your order. Instead, email [email protected].
