August 22 Recipe Editing Workshop
Before you proceed, please check your schedule to ensure you will be available for the workshop, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 12–2 pm PT. This is a live, instructor-led course that will not be recorded. Class will start promptly, so please log on early to check your device/equipment and say hi.
Who this class is for: Recipe writers, recipe developers, recipe creators, and cookbook authors. This workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate bloggers, authors, and recipe developers who want to self-edit text-based recipes.
Who this class is NOT for: We will not cover video editing or visual recipes ( e.g., recipes on TikTok, YouTube, or Reels) so the course is not a good fit for video-based recipe creators. Editors (technical editors, medical editors, nonfiction proofreaders, fiction book coaches, etc.) should head over to the Recipe Editing 101 page. Anyone with extensive experience developing cookbooks and working closely with professional recipe editors may already be familiar with much of the material covered.
Description: In this 2-hour hands-on workshop, cookbook editor Melissa Haskin will teach you how to self-edit your recipes like a professional. Whether you plan to work with an editor or publish on your own, a good self-edit is crucial to recipe success. During the workshop, you’ll put your new skills into practice hunting for errors like recipes that claim to be “quick and easy” but actually take 45+ minutes. If you’d like to practice on your own recipes, feel free to bring 2–3 of your own unedited recipes (the messier, the better!) to scrutinize with your new skills.
Technology Requirements: This course will meet via Zoom and will contain visual elements. While you can call in to Zoom, to get the most out of the workshop, it is best to use video. Participants are not required or expected to appear on camera. Participants who require accommodations can submit an accommodation request at least 14 days prior to the start of the class using the contact form.
