Your partner in all things recipes, cookbooks, and research
Hi there! I'm Melissa, an Oregonian with a strong love of words, food, and the outdoors.
After receiving a master’s degree in magazine journalism from the University of Oregon, I worked on staff at Cooking Light magazine and then Men's Health magazine.
Over the last 15+ years, I have worked with words and writers in various capacities, from writing about food for magazines to editing cookbooks for Penguin Random House and research for Stanford economists. Want to get a feel for what it's like to work with me? Get a free quote, listen to me on the Everything Cookbooks podcast, or watch me on the Editors Half Hour podcast.

Editors: Are you looking for a little direction? Let's chat!
One of my favorite things to do is help other editors. That's why I added editor coaching to my list of services in 2023 (after many years practicing my advice-giving skills by serving as a volunteer mentor for the Northwest Editors Guild). From talking about how to handle difficult clients to discussing what sort of email templates to set up to streamline your processes, I'm here to listen, share my experience, and help you chart a path forward.
