Getting it Right Means Getting it Accepted

When it comes to academic manuscripts, the big picture matters just as much as the tiny details. Getting either wrong can hold you back from graduating or getting published.

As a new person reading your manuscript, I am in the perfect position to spot places that don't make sense. I can provide feedback on logic, word choice, effectiveness, organization and more. Additionally, as an experienced editor, I catch the smallest of errors: an extra space, an en dash that should be an em dash, a period that should not be italicized. Writers often miss these tiny errors, often dictated by their school’s preferred style guide or a journal's style guide, thinking no one will notice. Unfortunately, the people in charge of accepting and cataloging these types of papers are particularly skilled at spotting these errors
-- and when they do it can mean a student has to revise and resubmit and sometimes that process can take an extra term, costing a student thousands of extra dollars.

But you can get it right the first time if you put in the work ahead of time and work with an editor.
You worry about writing the content, doing the research, and finding the sources. I’ll provide the feedback and editing you need so you can be confident that your ideas are clearly presented, free of mechanical errors, and in the right style and tone.

When Reviewing a Manuscript, I Check:

Grammar
Spelling
Typos
Formatting per school guidelines
Sentence structure
Cohesiveness
Clarity

Organization
APA or Chicago Style
Tone
Word choice
Sources used correctly
Citations
Completeness of information
Overall readability

Rates

Each project is unique. To get a quote for your specific paper, please send me a message. Once I have your information (your deadline, the timeline you would like editing completed in, what school you attend, and if you need your content edited per a specific style guide), I will ask you for a sample of your paper. After I have received your sample, I will write back with a per-page rate specific to your project so that you know exactly how much you will be spending if you chose to have your paper edited. I will include a free sample edit of your project so you can see if we are a good fit. Just like in dating, not every editor is right for every project! If you find that we are not a fit, I can reach out to my network to help you find a different editor. All projects are based on my hourly rate: $85.

Custom Packages for Students on a Budget

On a budget? I offer custom packages as well. For example, I can edit some chapters of a dissertation line-by-line and skip other chapters that do not require editing. If you are interested in a custom package or on a tight budget, please let me know. Together, we can figure out which sections will most benefit from editing and how to get you to the finish line without going over your budget.

Payment

I accept payment via my website, melissa-haskin.com, which accepts all major credit and debit cards. I can also accept payment through PayPal or through your university, if you choose to pay for editing with a grant. I require a $100 deposit on all academic work. This deposit will hold your spot for editing and will be credited towards your final bill. It is non-refundable.

Book Now!

I typically book out 1-2 months in advance. The sooner you reach out, the more likely it is that I can help you get your paper where you want it before it's due, so reach out today!

What Clients Say:

I have been working with Melissa for two years, and she remains my first point of contact whenever I need my papers proofread or edited. She is professional, fast, extremely careful, friendly, and affordable. Since I am not a native English speaker, and most of my work is scientific in nature, I always had a problem finding a person who could understand the content of my work, and be able to edit it without changing the meaning of the work. Melissa is among very few who could fill in the job. – Frankie, PhD.
I was very happy with the work and guidance Melissa provided to me for my final version of DNP [Doctorate of Nursing Practice] graduate manuscript. She was thoughtful, tactful and timely with the work. I highly recommend Melissa to get you to your final product. – Dawnn Vonderheide, October 2019, successful DNP graduate.
... [Melissa] was flexible and helped me out by not only editing and formatting my paper but also giving me helpful tips on content and good language use. She was willing to spend the whole weekend with me. Thanks to Melissa, I was able to meet the deadline and graduate on time.  – Marina, SFSU
