My name is Melissa Haskin and non-fiction words are my jam.
I love working on all sorts of things: resumes, dissertations, menus... the list goes on and on. Clients turn to me for help with all sorts of projects every day, whether it's sprucing up a cover letter or checking a newsletter for typos. I'm not sure what project you have on your slate right now, but I look forward to hearing about it and how I can assist you.
That's me up there to the left (or at the top, if you are on a mobile device). I live in the Columbia River Gorge with my cat, Noam, and my partner, John. I enjoy spending my days fixing commas, reading about new things, and interacting with clients. When I'm not working, I'm out exploring the Gorge. Last year, I took up snowboarding. I'm proud to say that I can get off a lift without falling 80% of the time. Before I went freelance, I worked on staff in editorial positions at national magazines including Cooking Light and Men's Health. In my last job, I once bent under my desk to pick something up and ended up knocking my sandwich on my own head. Now you know why I have to work at home. Joking aside, I love my work and look forward to hearing from you!
Experience You Can Trust
For more than a decade, I have worked with words and writers in various capacities, from tutoring college-level students to editing scholarly articles. I hold a master's degree in journalism and a bachelor's degree in economics; and I have experience editing for medical companies, national publishers, professors, graduate students, and job seekers. I am also a member of The American Copy Editors Society (ACES) as well as the Northwest Editors Guild.
One-on-One Help
I work on a freelance basis with individual clients. What does that mean? Instead of working with an employer 40 hours a week, I take on individual clients, so I can set aside whatever amount of time I need to help you get your work to where you would like it to be. It's the way I have run my business for 10 years, and I’ve found it to be the best model to help my clients be successful.
Long-Lasting Relationships
Many of my clients come back to me over and over throughout the years. See what they say here.
